Father M. Lawrence Reuter, S.J. was a campus minister affiliated with Loyola University Chicago from the late 1970s to 2010. Reuter served on the university’s board of trustees from the late 1970s until 1990. During the 1980s Reuter also served as president of Loyola Academy high school in Wilmette, IL. In 1990 he was reassigned from the presidency at Loyola Academy in Wilmette to serving in campus ministry both at Lake Shore Campus and at the Medical Campus in Maywood, where he served as head of campus ministry.
Reuter was accused of at least two cases of child sexual abuse that took place during his time as Loyola Academy president in the late 1980s. Allegedly Reuter abused two students of his at the academy.
Both cases were settled in the 1990s. As the Jesuit province of Chicago became more aware of the extent of child sexual abusers in their midst who still served as priests in the wake of the child sexual abuse crisis in the Catholic Church, the Chicago provincial came across his file and decided to remove Reuter from public ministry. He was removed from public ministry in May 2010 and said to be living in a Jesuit community.
