Fr. Robert Erpenbeck was a Jesuit priest who had been ordained in 1944. Erpenbeck was later in his life accused of having abused several children in Milford, Ohio, where the Jesuits operated both a retreat center and a novitiate. The abuse allegedly took place in 1961 and 1964, years before the priest joined the ranks of Loyola University Chicago’s faculty at the Bellarmine School of Theology in 1969.[1] Nothing in Erpenbeck’s career indicates that the Jesuit order was aware of his abuse. He continued a steady career working at educational institutions until his death in 1986.[2]
